There is no love sincerer than the love of food. ~George Bernard Shaw

Going out for a dinner and getting only mediocre food and horrible service can be a big disappointment, especially when you’re watching your budget. We often find a better restaurant in a locality by trial and error process but this becomes tedious especially if you are new to a place. One of the best ways to find out what to expect at a restaurant is by researching it before you go. This website does it. In other words, without fancy, the intention of the reviewer is to help the readers to find Food Worth their Money.
The indianrestaurantreviews.com provides comprehensive first-hand information about restaurants for all chowhounds. The reviews are neither user contributed nor sponsored articles but from the experience of the author.

Pure South Restaurant - Calicut

One of the restaurants among the Puresouth restaurant chain.  The service is mainly self-service in nature hence we need to bill the dishes in advance. It causes the inconvenience of having an added dish while eating. I have experienced the same since first I billed for a masala dosa, Medu vadai and a coffee and later I decided to taste their onion oothappam too. For the oothappam, I had to go to the wash room to wash my hands and went for billing. Apart from the advance billing, rest of the factors were very much convincing and I could feel the quality of raw materials and oil they are using. Hats off to puresouth for it.   All dishes had a Tamil flavour but most of the south Indian vegetarian dishes are authentically tamil, hence that was justifiable. Among the dishes I had, special mention should go to the medu vada (Uzundu Vada) since it met all the traditional taste concepts. The water they served by default was boiled municipal water and the very colour of it wasn’t appealing, hence i didn’t take the risk of having it, instead I went for bottled water. The menu includes variety of dosas, fresh idly, tali meals, a few veg snacks, upma and a few other typical Tamil dishes. The restaurant is in ground floor and fully Air Conditioned. We get a view to the Calicut NH bypass through the glass panes. The restaurant may not be an ideal place for party or social gathering but it is a reliable, hygienic and safe destination for the travellers to fill their tummy.

Casserole Restaurant- Calicut

Casserole Restaurant- Calicut
Date of visit: Sunday, March 1, 2015
Phone: 0495 605 5505
Address:  Calicut NH bypass, Near SBT, Pantheerankavu, Calicut, Kerala
I reached the restaurant at around 2:15 PM. Since it was afternoon and lunch time over, the restaurant was literally empty. I was accompanied to the first floor by a waiter, which was the air-conditioned section of it. Within no time, I was attended by a pleasantly looking waiter and taken the order of  hot and sour chicken soup as starter, Kerala chicken Biriyani and Chicken Mandi as main course. Without much delay, I was served with the soup but it resembled Rasam (a south –indian curry with pepper and tomato as main ingredients) made up of chicken stock. Pepper was added excessively to the soup and I struggled to finish it. Finally I comforted myself by recalling moms’ advice “pepper is good for stomach and digestion”.
The waiters were attentive and they brought Chicken biriyani and chicken mandi as soon as I finished the soup. Unfortunately,  Chicken mandi  was in lukewarm condition and in short, mandi looked like boiled chicken in fried rice. The taste of chicken Biriyani seemed to be cosmopolitan since it didn’t have the taste of any of the varieties of Biriyanis available in India, instead, it was the blended taste of all Biriyanis available in India.  In other words, Casserole restaurant may not be a good place to people who travel to taste the authentic taste of Kozikkodan Biriyani. The parking space was ample since majority of the vehicles (including mine) were parking besides the road though the restaurant has a parking lot.
